Set in the picturesque farmland of southeast Pennsylvania, French Creek State Park offers visitors excellent fishing, great water sports and more than 30 miles of marked trails.

The 21-acre Scotts Run Lake offers excellent fishing for trout and other cold water species, while Hopewell Lake’s 63 acres of prime warm water are home to northern pike, chain pickerel, bass walleye, muskellunge and many species of panfish. This lake is designated as a big bass lake and conservation regulations apply.

Non-powered and electric-powered boats are permitted on both lakes and each lake has a boat launch. Boat rentals are available at the Hopewell Lake pool complex.

More than 30 miles of well-marked trails weave through the park's 7,475 acres and offer a variety of challenges and scenery.

The park's naturalist leads walks and hikes and gives evening talks and demonstrations, during spring, summer and fall.

The park also suppports large populations of resident birds and animals. It is a popular stopover for migratory birds who use the woodlands, streams, lakes and wetlands for food and cover.

The art of map and compass reading has made French Creek State Park a favorite stop for both novice and professionals. Considered the Orienteering Capital of North America, French Creek has developed a self-guided course for visitors of all ages and abilities.

The objective of this course is to locate markers in the park with the aid of a map and an optional compass. Traveling in groups or alone, running or walking, orienteering is a healthy, fun way to exercise both mind and body.

Two disc golf courses wind through the woods, attracting visitors of all ages year-round.

A swimming pool is near the shore of the lake, which provides a beautiful setting for swimmers and sunbathers.

Deer, rabbits, squirrels, pheasants and wild turkeys are among the game animals that attract hunters.

Horses are permitted on the Horse-shoe Trail, and on the right berm of public roads (except in overnight areas).

Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site is adjacent to the park and features a cold-blast furnace restored to its 1830s appearance. Ore was once mined locally and the water power of French Creek ran the furnace's bellows.

The iron produced made arms for American patriots during the Revolutionary War. During summer, costumed historical interpreters demonstrate and describe Hopewell's iron-making years.

Camping is available year-round at the park. About 200 wooded, modern sites-60 with electric hookups are available with easy access to showers and flush toilets. There are also three camping cottages with electricity adjacent to the campground, furnished with bunk beds, table and chairs.

Ten furnished modern cabins, nestled among the hardwoods, are also available.
